Northern Neck Electric Cooperative has begun to roll out a series of updates and upgrades to the systems that allow members to report outages, view the outage map visit the Outage Center webpage, and see or hear about outage updates. The new outage map is accessible from the co-op’s website or its mobile app, coNNECt. Members can conveniently track the status of an outage and confirm that it has been reported and is being addressed by restoration teams. Using the map, members can also get an estimated restoration time, if available.

Members, who have one account tied to their cell phone number and have verified that number in the coNNECt app, can text the co-op to report an outage. To report an outage through SMS, a member can text the word “OUT” to Click to call

Internally, improvements have been made to dispatching, crew notification, and information about the outage that is shared to the crews, which may reduce response times. These upgrades represent the latest effort by the co-op to modernize systems to improve member satisfaction and reliability, which are part of NNEC’s strategic plan.

Later this year, members will be able to sign up for email or text message alerts for outages impacting their homes or businesses. Updates include when an outage has occurred and when one is restored. “We will not always get it right, but we are trying to keep our members as informed as possible and in multiple ways and channels during an outage event,” says Kyle Allwine, manager, of public relations, “We hope members enjoy these updates, and we ask for their patience as we continue to improve.”
